The road being a busy route for army conveys connects Swat Valley with Buner where recently an offensive is initiated against Militants. Its the second most important army course since Qambar Rd, which is already glutted by Taliban with explosives.
Witness says a number of Taliban came last night, besieged the road and started digging the road and planted the bombs.
No Army action is taken against the mines yet.

Police arrest some suspects but the real elements guarding the locality escaped safely. Political leaders like Imran Khan , Nawaz Shareef and Qazi Hussain Ahmed and their parties PML(N) JI Jamat-e-Islami and Tehreek-e-Insaf support militancy in Pakistan.

Taliban's Presence In Pakistan

Taliban militants in Pakistan continue their own brand of justice even though lawmakers approved the implementation of Islamic law according to Taliban demands.

Under pressure from lawmakers including members of his own party, Pakistan's president on Monday signed a regulation that puts a northwest valley under Islamic law to achieve peace with Taliban militants who have brutalized the area.

 
The provincial government in northwestern Pakistan agreed in February to impose Islamic law in the Swat Valley and surrounding areas in exchange for a cease-fire with the local Taliban. Western and Pakistani critics say the agreement represents a dangerous surrender to extremists behind a campaign of terrorism in the Swat Valley and more broadly across the border region with Afghanistan.
Even without the president's approval, judges trained in Islamic law had already began hearing cases in Swat, and witnesses say the Taliban are in effective control of much of the region. Supporters say the changes in the legal system will speed up justice there, not lead to harsh punishments or restrict the rights of women.
Those brokering the deal have given few specifics about conditions placed on the Taliban.

Muslim Khan, the Taliban spokesman, did not say whether the Taliban would punish legislators opposing the deal other than to say a militant council would discuss the matter. The charge of apostasy, or abandoning Islam, carries the death penalty in some quarters.
Lawmakers from the Muttahida Quami Movement, a party based in the southern city of Karachi that has a strong anti-Taliban stance, walked out of the session. "We can't accept Islamic law at gunpoint," said Farooq Sattar, a top party leader.

Buddha not laughing in Swat, terror shadow on heritage!

Swat: Militants are holding sway in the restive Swat valley of Pakistan and are destroying the heritage of Gandhara Civilisation there. In the absence of proper security arrangements, a historic rock-carved image of Buddha has already been destroyed partially. Situated on the banks of River Swat, anciently known as Svastu, the scenic Valley of Swat was the centre of Buddhist civilisation. In ancient scripts Swat is known as Udhyana meaning garden or park. Historians say Ashoka introduced Buddhism to Swat spreading it to Peshawar, Taxila, and beyond into Afghanistan. However, by seventh and eighth centuries AD, Buddhist Civilisation was losing its influence in this area. Rock carvings and historical sites preserve this part of history in the mountains and plains of Swat. Images and statues of Buddha carved in different forms are permanent record of the material remains of mankind. We reconstruct the history of Buddhism with their help. Now these carvings which you see hundreds of them in Swat, says Director Archeology Departmen, NWFP, Professor Fidaullah Sehrai. Growing militancy during the last one year has emerged as a major threat to these rare sites in the restive valley. Some sites have already been damaged. Jehanabad Buddha is one such complete and inspiring symbol of Gandhara Art. Preserved by nature due to difficult location, this seven meter tall meditating Buddha carved some 20 feet high from the land, survived many attacks since 1994. However, the last one proved destructive. Body of the Jehanabad Buddha still carries holes filled with explosives which show that the militants can come back any time for the final round to completely destroy the unique image. We have complained to the DOc and the ministry, and they will take some action, says official of Swat Museum, Nasir Khan. Unlike the past, the sites offer bleak look as no foreign tourists are visiting these sites for fear of growing militancy. This has badly damaged economy of the area that largely depended on tourism industry. Due to growing insecurity and lack of well-preserved strategy, some of these sites are fast losing its attraction for the tourists coming from different countries of the world.

Pak analyst speaks against Sharia law in Swat valley

Washington, April 18 (ANI): Shuja Nawaz, director of the south Asian centre at the Atlantic council, has said that Pakistan's deal with Taliban guerrillas to impose Islamic law on the Swat Valley in Pakistan is a cause of concern. On April 13, 2009, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari approved the deal imposing Sharia law in the Swat valley, effectively empowering the Taliban and other groups there and in surrounding areas.
Nawaz said the move could allow militancy to seep into the rest of Pakistan.

Taliban Threaten Islamabad

Taliban of Swat Valley scribbled threats on the Walls of Islamabad including prominent Government Buildings and Minister's home to attack the city if the Pakistan Military is not pulled out of Malakand Division. Swat Valley was once considered the Switzerland of Pakistan and is now over run by the Tehrik-e-Taliban under the leadership of Cleric Fazlullah. A report pulished by the daily News suggested that the threat be taken seriously or a wave of Suicide Attackers will break the calm of city leaving death and destruction in its path.

Pakistan immigrants in US fear Swat backlash - 03 Mar 09

The rising power of the Taliban in Pakistan's Swat Valley is worrying some Pakistani immigrants in the US, who are finding that even though they're thousands of kilometres from the region, the situation is having a frightening impact on their lives.
Many of the immigrants left Swat and came to the US to try to help their families back home.  But some are finding their presence in the US could be endangering them, as Kristen Saloomey reports.
